Posted in All Posts, Anti-Malware Tools, Security Tools on April 16th, 2006

The tool is called SiteAdvisor.

Quote:

“We test the Web to help keep you safe from spyware, spam, viruses and online scams.”

“Web sites are tested for excessive pop-ups, “phishing” and other fraudulent practices, and browser exploits. So far we’ve tested sites representing more than 95% of worldwide Web traffic.

Downloads are tested for viruses and bundled adware, spyware or other unwanted programs. We’ve tested more than 600,000 to date.

Sign-up forms are completed using a one-time use e-mail address so any subsequent spam can be tracked. Our bots receive mail from more than one million places already.

Feedback from individual users and analysis by SiteAdvisor staff enhances SiteAdvisor’s automated testing.

Site Report pages document every SiteAdvisor test.”

The site says this is a plug-in for Internet Explorer, but please note that it also works with Firefox.  Check Support, for more information.

And what’s particularly cool about this tool is that it integrates it’s ratings onto search results from Google, Yahoo! or MSN, as well as givings rating for many sites that you may visit..  This helps keep one out of trouble whole searching and surfing the web.   And by the way, it is Free.
